The Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is a non-profit membership organization that represents thoroughbred owners and trainers who race at Colonial Downs. The VHBPA negotiates with the management and ownership of Colonial for race days, dates, and purses, and also provides educational, recreational, health, counseling, and religious programs for back stretch workers.

  RACING IN 2010 WILL START ON SATURDAY, MAY 29TH AND RUN FOR 40 DAYS THROUGH WEDNESDAY, JULY 17TH. RACES ARE ON EACH DAY EXCEPT THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS. THE STABLE AREA WILL OPEN ON MAY 17TH.

Virginia Racing Commission Meeting:
The next meeting of  the VRC is Wednesday, February 17th at 9:30 A.M. in the VHBPA building at Colonial Downs.


Message Board:    

CHRISTMAS DAY RAFFLE WINNER: Owner A.F. (Bert) Allen, Jr. won the $1000 prize. His email address card was picked at random from approximately 300 that were in the raffle box . Bert is a long time VHBPA member and supporter of Virginia racing. His son, Ferris Allen, is one of the leading trainers each year at Colonial Downs.

 

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION RESULTS: The following individuals were elected to a three year term, starting January 1, 2010:

Owners: Susie Chatfield-Taylor, Nellie Cox, Jill Gordon-Moore, Susie Hart, Robin Richards, Donna Rogers, and David Ross.

Trainers: Susan Cooney, Donna Dennehy, Carlos Garcia, Diana McClure, Stephanie Nixon, Ernie Oare, and Randy Rouse.
