Welcome to the VHBPA web site

The Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is a non-profit membership organization that represents thoroughbred owners and trainers who race at Colonial Downs. The VHBPA negotiates with the management and ownership of Colonial for race days, dates, and purses, and also provides educational, recreational, health, counseling, and religious programs for back stretch workers.

The schedule for the 2014 summer meet at Colonial Downs has not been finalized because of a contract dispute between the VHBPA and Colonial Downs. For details about the dispute please click here.

Here's the latest on our race day dispute with the track. The Virginia

Racing Commission proposed a 7 week/21 day meet for this summer.

The VHBPA accepted, Colonial Downs did not. For more details please
