Welcome to the VHBPA web site
   The Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is a non-profit membership organization that represents thoroughbred owners and trainers who race at Colonial Downs. The VHBPA negotiates with the management and ownership of Colonial for race days, dates, and purses, and also provides educational, recreational, health, counseling, and religious programs for back stretch workers.

     

    THE 2009 RACE MEET AT COLONIAL DOWNS WILL RUN FOR 40 DAYS FROM JUNE 5TH THROUGH JULY 28TH. RACING WILL BE FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY, WITH WEEKDAY POST TIME AT 5 PM, FRIDAY AT 6 PM AND WEEKENDS AT 12:55 PM. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CLICK "2009 Race Meet", "Racing Update," AND "Let's Go Racing" IN THE ARTICLES SECTION BELOW.

    THE VRC WILL NO LONGER MAIL LICENSE RENEWAL NOTICES TO OWNERS AND TRAINERS. HOWEVER, APPLICATIONS CAN BE PRINTED FROM THE VRC WEBSITE, www.vrc.virginia.gov. CALL 804-966-7412 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS CAN BE FAXED TO 804-966-7422.

    PRIOR TO RACING AN OWNER AND TRAINER MUST HAVE ON FILE A COMPLETED APPLICATION, INCLUDING PAYMENT OF THE LICENSING FEE. AN ALLOWANCE OF 30 DAYS WILL BE GRANTED TO COMPLETE THE FINGERPRINTING PROCESS. ALL PURSES WILL BE HELD UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE.

Virginia Racing Commission Meeting:
The next meeting of  the VRC is Wednesday, July 15th at 9:30 A.M. in the VHBPA building at Colonial Downs.

SCHOLARSHIPS. Virginia residents who are employed at Colonial Downs or at a horse farm or are the child of one who is may apply for a VHBPA scholarship for use in college, vocational school, or other formal course of study.
