Welcome to the VHBPA web site

      The Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is a non-profit membership organization that represents thoroughbred owners and trainers who race at Colonial Downs. The VHBPA negotiates with the management and ownership of Colonial for race days, dates, and purses, and also provides educational, recreational, health, counseling, and religious programs for back stretch workers.   

         Along with the Virginia Thoroughbred Association (the breeders' organization), the Virginia Gold Cup (steeplechase racing), and the Virginia Harness Horsemen's Association the VHBPA in November formed the Virginia Equine Alliance, Inc. ("VEA"). The VEA is a non-profit corporation whose goal is establish thoroughbred and standard bred racing at venues in addition to Colonial Downs.

 

        THERE WILL BE MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS ON JANUARY 4TH AND JANUARY 18TH TO DISCUSS RACING PLANS FOR 2015. ALL ARE INVITED FOR DISCUSSION, FOOD, AND DRINK. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.

     

     

              

 
 

Meetings:
VHBPA Board of Directors.

The next  Board meetings are January 4th at 6 p.m. at Buchanan Hall, Route 50, east of Upperville, VA and January 18th at 6 p.m. at The Meadow Events Park, 13111 Dawn Blvd (Rte 30) in Doswell, VA.


Virginia Racing Commission Meeting.

The next meeting will be in January 2015, most likely at the Patrick Henry Building, East Reading Room, located on the Capitol grounds next to the General Assembly building.
