The Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is a non-profit
membership organization that represents thoroughbred owners and trainers who race at Colonial Downs. The VHBPA negotiates with the management and ownership of Colonial
for race days, dates, and purses, and also provides educational, recreational, health,
counseling, and religious programs for back stretch workers.
The 2008 Colonial Downs summer meet will run for nine weeks (45 days) from Monday, June 9th through Wednesday, August 6th. Week day post will be 5 P.M. Weekend post will be 12:55 P.M. Overnite purses levels are expected to remain the same as last year.
The Virginia Breeders Fund will pay a 100% owner's bonus to Virginia bred/sired horses running in open races and finishing from 1st through 6th. For example, a Virginia bred/sired horse running in a race with a published purse of $25,000 is actually running for a $50,000 purse.
